A series of 3 lectures by Thomas Struth part of the photography chair CHANEL – Jeu de Paume.
The lectures will be in English.
This evening explores the genesis of an artistic photograph: an in-depth, even philosophical, exploration of a subject, and research on the motif. It will address inspiration, drawn from both the history of photography and the history of art, as well as conceptual preparation: how a work fits into a broader body of work, and how it relates to a particular series. Technical preparation will also be discussed, along with the role of intuition and planning.
Evening 2 – At : The moment the photograph is taken
This evening focuses on the moment the photograph is taken, and the interaction with the subject. Topics will include: the decision-making process during the session, working with light and composition, the question of spontaneity versus concept, as well as the relationship between the photographer and the subject.
Evening 3 – After : The work after the shoot

Two options are possible.
- ON SITE (AUDITORIUM) : Join us in our auditorium. We have 90 seats and you’ll benefit from 4K quality projection on a large screen and a direct connection to the artist.
- ONLINE (VISIO) : Participate live via a Zoom webinar.
