Vocal performance by Violaine Lochu in resonance with the exhibition by Ali Kazma

Tuesday 16 January 2018 • 8:00 PM

Jeu de Paume – Paris

Machine, wind, bird, watch, telephone, insect – working with sounds in her sound library and in the videos of Ali Kazma, Violaine Lochu lists, classifies and orders a set of non-human sounds in an immense map-cum-score. Reactivating these archives with her own voice, she engages in an exercise of hybridisation which interrogates the relation between the human being and their environment and perverts a number of traditional dualisms, such as nature/culture, man/animal, living being/machine, etc. Occupying the Jeu de Paume exhibition space, this vocal performance will interact freely with the videos of Ali Kazma in a play of echoes, ricochets, interconnection and dissonance.

Born in 1987, Violaine Lochu lives and works in Montreuil. She has exhibited and performed in France and abroad (Palais de Tokyo, FIAC, La Maison de la Poésie, Salon de Montrouge et de la Jeune Création, La Galerie de Noisy-le-Sec, Centre d’art Bétonsalon, Espace Khiasma, Galerie du Jour Agnès B., Galerie Justina M. Barnick, Toronto, North End Studio, Detroit, etc.). In recent years she has been artist in residence at MAC VAL, the Synagogue de Delme, La Box, Le Générateur, and the Ricklundgarden Museum (Sweden). Thanks to the support of the Centre National des Arts Plastiques, she is currently conducting research in Lapland.

Vocal performance by Violaine Lochu, Tuesday 16 January, from 8 to 8.30 pm.
Admission free.
