International style icon Diane Pernet presents “A SHADED VIEW ON FASHION FILM”, Paris’s first annual fashion film festival, hosted by the Jeu de Paume in collaboration with Standard Magazine.

An exciting new concept

“A SHADED VIEW ON FASHION FILM” pioneers the appreciation of fashion through the moving image at a time when the industry is still dominated by static photography.
Earlier this year, “A SHADED VIEW ON FASHION FILM” was spun off from “YOU WEAR IT WELL”, an itinerant program of short-films and videos produced by designers, photographers, stylists and creators in the fashion world.
Hosted from 2008 by le Jeu de Paume, “A SHADED VIEW ON FASHION FILM”, is curated by Diane Pernet, and will be submitted to a jury of esteemed professionals from the worlds of the arts, cinema, fashion and media. The public also has an opportunity to cast its vote for a separate prize. Some 90 minutes of film, which include documentaries as well as features, have been divided over the three-day festival. The common thread that binds this diverse program is the use of fashion as the principal subject, theme or cinematic aesthetic. The festival is a study in the drama, power and personification that fashion evokes and commands on screen.

Le Jeu de Paume is one of the most prestigious art institutions in Paris. Its reputation is rooted not only in its exhibitions but the beauty and history of the building. Fashion is now carving out a home at the Jeu de Paume alongside contemporary art and film. Featured fashion photographers of note have included Steichen, Guy Bourdin, Pierre & Gilles, Cindy Sherman and Richard Avedon.
The museum is also respected in cinematic circles thanks to its recent celebrations of rare film. The 93-seat theatre accommodates all screening formats for cinematic events as well as offering a conference facility for other functions.
