Otherhood brings together a mother and her daughter, the three American poets Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich, and Lucille Clifton, as well as a peacock and two camels, whose gaze we meet in Last Things. Awarded the grand prize at the Cinéma du Réel Festival in 2023, this film questions the notions of evolution and extinction from the perspective of rocks. For the artist, “touching a rock is akin to an encounter of extraterrestrial duration.” Making use of a narrative featuring the voices of geologist Marcia Bjørnerud and filmmaker Valérie Massadian, Last Things echoes the pluralist vision of evolution found in J.-H Rosny’s proto science-fiction texts, as well as writings by Roger Caillois, Robert Hazen, Clarice Lispector, Lynn Margulis, Hazel Barton, and Donna Haraway.
