Jeu de Paume bookshop and the publisher Atelier EXB invite you to meet Roger Ballen, for the publication of his book Des oiseaux, a new volume in the now famous collection des oiseaux published by Atelier EXB.
Roger Ballen will talk with the co-directors of the collection, Nathalie Chapuis and Philippe Séclier.

In closed universes, where graffiti, signs, shadows and fragments accumulate, stories are played out that challenge our view.
The line between fantasy and drama is blurred.
The non-logical world of an Alice in Wonderland, mischievous and sometimes not so nice, seems to come alive before our eyes.
Birds wisely placed among a doll’s décor, emerging behind a papier-mâché wall, evolving in the middle of toys abandoned and broken by a disgruntled child, or playing balancing act on balloons, making friends with teddy bears, real or drawn: all participate in the artist’s amused delirium.
An essay by Guilhem Lesaffre accompanies this series and deals with the birds’ ability to adapt to extreme contexts such as periods of war. It also makes a statement about the current threats to the disappearance of many species and recounts the powerful fascination that these birds of prey have held for centuries in the arts.
