Tuesday 14 June 2016 • 7:00 PM

Jeu de Paume – Paris

The Jeu de Paume and Les Presses du réel are delighted to invite you, Tuesday 14 June at 7 pm, to meet Soko Phay. She will be talking to Pascal Bonafoux and Jacinto Lageira about her new book, Les Vertiges du miroir dans l’art contemporain.

The mirror is an agent of transformation in contemporary art, a force that has renewed aesthetic categories, opening up genres and mediums. This new book sets out to analyse the functions of the mirror in our visual culture while considering the nature of our coexistence with the Other.

Soko Phay is a lecturer in art history and theory at Université Paris 8. She has written several books and articles on the aesthetic of the mirror, from the Renaissance to the contemporary era, and on art’s response to extreme events, its relation to memory and history.
Pascal Bonafoux is a novelist and art historian. A former resident at the Villa Medici, he has curated exhibitions of contemporary art around the world, contributed to journals and reviews and published a number of books on aesthetic questions. He teaches art history at Université Paris VIII.
Jacinto Lageira is an art critic and lecturer at Université de Paris-I/Panthéon-Sorbonne and the author of numerous articles and books on art.
