2027 Season
Exhibitions • Lecture Series
From 01 January to 31 December 2027
EDITORIAL
2027 will be partially devoted to France’s commemoration of the bicentenary of photography. Two exhibitions from the Jeu de Paume’s programme are part of this initiative: in early 2027, the exhibition William Klein. Revisiting New York revisits the work he produced in New York in 1954–1955 and features iconic images that have marked the history of photography, as well as surprising rediscoveries. It also offers an opportunity to re-examine this major body of work by William Klein, which, even today, retains its relevance and energy. The second exhibition as part of this initiative will take place in Tours in spring and in Paris (Concorde) in summer and is devoted to Stanley Greene, the American photojournalist who settled in France. Called Le parti de la révolte, this is the first retrospective since his death and draws upon numerous personal accounts and previously unseen documents. In addition, a lecture series will be organized to coincide with the exhibition programme, giving a platform to numerous photographers and artists working in the photographic domain, who will share “their” experiences of the medium. In commemoration of the bicentenary and in collaboration with Le Point du Jour, a history of photography will be published, targeting younger readers. In 2027, we once again reaffirm our commitment to the contemporary art scene.
The programme at the Jeu de Paume is resolutely multidisciplinary, featuring not only photography but also moving images, including film and video. Eclectic in terms of the approaches presented, the programme ranges from documentary imagery to distinctly multimedia artistic practices. For example, in the spring of 2027, visitors can discover the work of Brazilian artist Jonathas de Andrade in an exhibition focusing on his relationship with the image, bringing together some of his key projects from the past decade; in the summer, the work of Alexandra Catiere—recipient of the 2026 Prix Niépce—will be showcased in Tours, while in Paris, Franco-Colombian artist Laura Huertas Millan (winner of the 2024 Aware Prize) will present two large-scale installations on the ground floor, including a new work coproduced for the occasion by the Jeu de Paume and La Criée in Rennes. Finally, in the autumn in Paris, and in collaboration with the Reina Sofía in Madrid, we will celebrate another anniversary: the 50th anniversary of the “Pictures Generation”. This New York movement, influenced by media, advertising, and cinematic imagery in the 1970s and ‘80s includes wellknown artists like Cindy Sherman and Richard Prince, both renowned names in the art world. Last but not least, to conclude this event-filled year, an exhibition dedicated to the great Nigerian photographer J. D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere will mark the first phase of a collaboration with the Centre Pompidou.

FROM THE INVENTION OF PHOTOGRAPHY TO TODAY’S
IMAGES
Special Focus: The Bicentennial of Photography
The Jeu de Paume’s lecture series explores the practices, status, and
uses of the image from the mid-nineteenth century to the present
day and adopts a pluralistic, interdisciplinary approach. For this
stimulating programme, in honour of the Bicentenary of Photography, the Jeu de Paume invites photographers and artists to share their own experiences of the medium. Each artist will present two thematic sessions focusing on specific bodies of work, related to their own career and projects.
