The Minotaur and Ijen / London, Ben Rivers’ most recent films, are both linked to an ongoing feature film project. Shot in the summer of 2022 and screened as part of the group exhibition “Somewhere from Here to Heaven” (curated by Garbiñe Ortega), The Minotaur shows children tormenting the mythical creature in a labyrinth in a Menorcan quarry. This will become the film within the film shot by the young protagonist of the future Mare’s Nest, some excerpts of which will be revealed during this screening. Ijen / London, which presents an apocalyptic landscape full of rocks and toxic smoke, devoid of human presence yet full of life, is connected to the After London project, already partially unveiled at the Jeu de Paume during the “Works in Progress” exhibition (2021-2022).
